Chesapeake
Bay is located on the eastern U.S. coast, north towards Baltimoreu. This is
the land of harsh winters, ice water and a large number of migratory birds.
Famous writer James Michener describes hunt ducks in this area in his novel
"Chesapeake." There were so many birds to be killed en masse, so that
brought their dogs, and by 10-20 after a bird rifle fire. Rifles that
were used for such a hunt were like small cannons, attached to the boat.
These hunters should dogs that were able to bring all these ducks, the first
to collect wounded, and one dead.
Is
tempting to create a romantic image of how the breed originated natural
selection in this rudeness climate, but in all probability, the family
occupied by the Bay are carefully breeding chessiee for desired features.
Carroll Island Gun Club (hunting club) devotes chessie's in the second half
of the 18th century and led the precise geographical books, which are,
unfortunately, lost in the fire at the turn of the century, bringing the
contribution of the puzzles about the formation of the breed. Members of the
club reared chessiee and are chasing them, people came from all sides to see
how these dogs are great. It is believed that the breeds that are involved
in the creation chessie's, among others, and the pursuer racoons, curly
coated retriever, irish water spaniel and seteri. Chesapeake Bay Retriever,
or how it abbreviated as "Chessie" cultivated for hunting on the water, by
bad weather, often on ice, and tirelessly passing game, with a long and
difficult swimming against the stream of ice cold water.
Breed
characteristics are efficiency, inexhaustibility and ease of conducting
business. Skull chessie is a wide and round. Jaw should be long and strong
enough that could bite soft catch and bring the big birds. A special
feature is their eyes, clear, yellow or amber color, as a strong upper and
wavy hair and thick, but fine woolly under hair the shoulders, neck, back
and flanks which contains a lot of fat, which is ideal for cold weather,
which usually chessie does. Any brown tint, color rush and hay is allowed.
Fur is almost no need to maintain, in fact, a lot groominga it destroys.
Brush rubber brush once a week is quite enough to make the whole hair was
greased, and that would be dragged out the dead hair.
Chessie
is a powerful, well-balanced dog is medium-sized (height: males of 58-66 cm,
females from 53-61) and capable of running in the middle distances. His
chest was deep and wide, shoulders allow considerable freedom of movement.
There is no place weaknesses, especially at the rear. According to the
standard, back-line must have a high back, usually a little higher than the
ridge, ie shoulders. Many prefer this, claiming that these dogs better at
work. Chessie had the chance to do on today's breed is not divided on the
exhibition and work as a type of code retrievers popular breeds. This is
partly because chessie not so large and popular as, for example, labradors and
goldens, litters whose number far exceeds the number litters
chessie's.
It is a very loyal dog with strong protective line, which, considering the
great temperament, a great guard, but not the dog to attack, because it will
not hurt anyone. Similarly, with regard to his loyalty, a few who will be
able to train apart from his family, so it is not recommended that it be
sent to someone else that train him. Policy is to chessie and friendly
relations towards foreigners, but without affection and love that kept for
the owners. They are excellent family dogs and do not like when they are
placed in the box away from his family.
Never particularly numerous in the exhibition rings, although it is not
difficult to
expose,
but it's difficult to find a judge who understands the breed. Great in
obedience exercises, especially with experienced trainers. Sometimes
stubborn, and need little effort to convince them to do on your demands, not
their way. Like all retrievers, Chesapeake Bay Retriever dog is active and
may become destructive if it is boring and if there is not enough run out. Keep in mind that any activities are not difficult recommended
as a dog does not turn at least a year.
